Final 3%

The Better Broadband for Oxfordshire programme achieved 95% coverage of superfast broadband across Oxfordshire in December 2017. We are now targeting 98% superfast broadband coverage by December 2020.

Whilst this places Oxfordshire in the upper quartile of counties in terms of having access to superfast broadband, we anticipate there to be approximately 8,500 premises, which will not have access and for which Oxfordshire County Council has no fully funded solution, due to the very high cost of intervention required. If your broadband speed is slow, then you can check if you are you in scope for future deployment through the Better Broadband for Oxfordshire programme on our Coverage Map

There is also the Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme available:

As part of the Rural Gigabit Connectivity programme announced by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport in May 2019, there is a new rural voucher scheme offering business and residents in some of the hardest-to-reach places in the UK, additional funding towards the cost of installing gigabit-capable broadband to their premises when part of a group project:

  • £3,500 for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs)
  • £1,500 per residential premise

Group projects are when two or more residents and/or SMEs combine their vouchers towards the shared cost of installation; single connections are not eligible for additional funding. Premises must meet eligibility and be defined as "rural" and also be currently receiving less than 100 megabits per second. The connection will then need to be gigabit-capable, with a minimum new speed taken by the customer as a "step change" - double current speed; at least 30Mbps.
