The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport have launched the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, which the Better Broadband programme at Oxfordshire County Council are facilitating for businesses and residences across Oxfordshire.
Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme
ARE YOU READY?
Full fibre broadband connections offer the fastest and most reliable speeds available and the government is committed to a vision of a full fibre Britain. As part of this commitment in March 2018, a £67 million Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme was announced.
Gigabit vouchers can be used by small and medium sized businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit capable connection.
Businesses can claim up to £2,500 against the cost of connection either individually or as part of a group project. Residents can benefit from the scheme as part of a group project which also includes businesses and can claim for a voucher of up to a value of £500 (plus VAT).
One gigabit is the same as 1,000 megabits – so it’s a big leap forward in connection speeds that could benefit you and your business into the future.
How the Scheme works:
Explore how the Gigabit Voucher Scheme is helping small, rural businesses and communities across the country to reap the rewards of Full Fibre Broadband – learn more.
Over 95% of UK premises can now receive superfast broadband speeds.
Whilst these speeds are meeting most users’ needs, upgrading to a full fibre based broadband with gigabit speeds has many benefits. Full fibre broadband is better equipped to support multiple users with high data needs than a copper cable connection.
It’s also more durable and the distance to your premises from the nearest cabinet is no barrier to connectivity.
Full fibre connections are capable of carrying over a gigabit of data per second. Full fibre means upload and download speeds can be the same. The homes and businesses of the future will be better served by full fibre broadband; from streaming video on demand, cloud-based services, smart home devices and 5G that will rely on full fibre connectivity.
The UK government has created the Local Full Fibre Networks programme to stimulate commercial investment in full fibre networks.
As part of that programme the £67 million Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme was launched to help small to medium sized businesses to improve their connectivity.
Eligible businesses can claim a voucher worth up to £2,500 towards the cost of installing a full fibre connection.
Residents can also claim a £500 voucher as part of a group project. There are only a few steps to benefit from the scheme. Eligible business and residents first find a registered supplier in your postcode and sign up with them for a gigabit-capable connection.
Your supplier will then request a voucher from the Scheme and we check with you by email to see if you’re happy to go ahead. Your supplier then starts work and before you know it you’re connected.
The Gigabit Voucher team will check that you are happy with your new connection and may also double check with an on-site visit. The Gigabit Voucher team then pay the voucher to your supplier.
